Tiny Dog Snatched From Yard By Eagle … Found Alive Miles Away!

7 min read

Dogs are blessings from God and these pets quickly become beloved parts of our families! Dogs are so special, and that’s why owners are heartbroken whenever anything scary threatens the safety of their furry friends.

Felipe Rodriguez, who was visiting Pennsylvania, says he thought he was hallucinating when he saw an eagle snatch his sister’s tiny white dog from her yard. The bird swooped down, grabbed the dog, and flapped its huge wings as it disappeared over the trees with the pup.

Zoey is the 8-pound white bichon frise that was taken by eagle Tuesday afternoon. Rodriguez couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the entire thing happen just 50 feet from his sister’s house on the banks of the Lehigh River in Pennsylvania. “It seemed like something from the ‘Wizard of Oz,’” Rodriguez said. “I’m a city boy. This doesn’t happen in my world.”

Rodriguez then desperately drove around the neighborhood in search of Zoey. He eventually gave up his search and found the rest of his family to inform them about the bad news. Of course, his sister and the rest of the family were devastated after learning about what happened to poor little Zoey. “I did nothing but cry all day,” Monica Newhard said.

Newhard and her husband went out into the woods to look for Zoey’s body. But, little did they know, their little bichon would be found later that afternoon, alive and a full four miles away!

Zoey’s sweet rescuer was Christina Hartman, who is 51. Hartman said that she was driving on a snow-covered road when she spotted the furry white dog and pulled over to help it. “I notice this little-frozen dog, icicles hanging from all over. It could hardly move,” Hartman said.

Hartman then picked up Zooey, wrapped her in a blanket and took her home. She fed the cold dog two bowls of chicken-and-rice soup and then noticed several small wounds on the back of the dog’s neck. She also noticed that the dog was walking with a limp, but she had no collar. “This dog belongs to a family, and I’m gonna find out who owns it,” Hartman told herself.

Soon after discovering Zoey, Hartman saw the Newhard’s Facebook post about their missing dog and reached out to them to let them know the good news! “I said, ‘It’s a miracle! I have your dog!’”

Zoey had only a few bruises and some missing patches of fur. It’s still not clear how far the eagle carried the dog, but Rodriguez said he just can’t believe Zoey survived!

“She is not really herself, but she is getting lots of love,” his sister, Newhard, said. “She doesn’t want to go out. … I really can’t blame her.”
