When I was a kid, probably around 12 or so, a friend of mine had gotten a stack of bills for Christmas. He was an only child, and an only kid for both his grandparents… needless to say he got spoiled.
We were hanging out at his house doing kid things and he takes his wallet out and shows me his stack of money. He takes a 20 dollar bill out of the stack and puts it on the ground. Then he takes a lighter and lights it on fire… I’m like screw this, if you are burning it just give it to me! … nope.. he made me watch as he burned a 20 spot. I can remember my disbelief.. this was the mid 80’s. 20 bucks could go a long way.

That guy was a Chem professor at the University of Puget Sound. He dips the bill in some thing (sorry don’t know what…don’t blame me, wasn’t a science major) and the bill doesn’t actually burn.

    The irony.

Yep, its mostly just [the administration](http://washingtonmonthly.com/magazine/septoct-2011/administrators-ate-my-tuition/) though. Much of the rest of most colleges are on a pretty tight budget from what they get of your tuition. As for those giant endowments (a.k.a “money phalluses”) only the special people get to play with them, and no one want to spend them because if the university’s money phallus gets to small, well who would go to a college with a wimpy money phallus?

I work at a public university and I must dis-confirm this, at least in our case. Recruiting is impossible because our salaries are too low, this year was our first raise since 2008 (not just me, the entire faculty), the building we’re in leaks like a sieve when it rains, is painted either the color of an especially unhealthy zombie or a three day dead smurf depending on which side your in, offers toilet paper as soft as 220 grit sandpaper, and is home to a robust community of cockroaches that are big enough to pull the Budweiser Wagon at the Rose Bowl Parade.

If there’s money it’s not going to our department.

If he’s burning ethanol it is an experiment to show that the bill is unharmed by the fire because burning ethanol is cool (pun intended)

No? They use their money for gender studies obviously.

Edit: just realized that the photo is accurate of a gender study.

College didn’t do that to your money, you did by picking the wrong college (which is >99% of them)
