So dumb. I pay for health insurance out my ass every month and then they still charge me a fuck ton to get anything done.

I did this when I was 18. I used a hacksaw and it took about an hour, had a leg cast just like that.

Ladies and gentlemen, the American healthcare system! Lets give it a big round of applause! Try not to clap to hard because if you hurt your hands it cost an arm and a leg to fix them!

Some advice to anyone without insurance who has had to go to the hospital:

Go to the hospital’s billing office and ask about any financial assistance programs they have. There’s a chance that, based on your income, your bill can be significantly reduced.

Last time I was in the hospital, I got hit with an $1,800 bill. This is actually pretty minimal in terms of medical bills, but it was still significant to me (And all they did was draw blood and x-ray my chest for bronchitis. I was only in there for two hours!). After asking if they had any sort of financial assistance, they asked me to send in a letter explaining my financial situation. They wanted to know what my income was and my general monthly expenses. After review, my bill got reduced down to less than $200. They didn’t even care what I made as payments as long as I was consistent each month. Paid it off after a few months at $30 a month.

Americans : We should have single payer health care like all the other first world countries !

GOP: Just because other countries do it does’t mean it is the best idea ! It’s communist ! We can’t afford it ! Look at how broke all those commie countries are !

Rich Americans: We should should cut taxes for corporations and the rich !

GOP: Yes because all the other first world countries have much cheaper taxes ! Look at how well off all those other countries are because we can’t compete with their low tax rates ! We can easily afford a 1.5 trillion dollar hit to our budget ! It will pay for itself ! It will be great for everyone !

I pay $1000 a month for health insurance and I still think twice about taking my kids to the doctor because it will cost me an additional $500 per visit just for a checkup with insurance. It’s insane. $1000 a month for health coverage and I still run the risk of bankruptcy if anything serious should happen.

It’s not true though. Cast removal is part of a global billing period and the provider that put on the cast can’t charge you to take it off.

I have a very simple health plan: don’t get sick or hurt, or get sick/hurt enough to die. Nothing in between, that requires money.

See the problem lies with insurance companies getting out of hand. Insurance companoes try to get the lowesf deal possible based on predetermined agreements for how much things will cost. Their entire job is lowering the price of things so they and the buyer have to pay out a fraction of the cost.

On the other hand since hospitals know this happens, they charge you for everything that will stick in hopes of getting as much money as they can salvage. Hospitals cant function without this.

People who dont have insurance get billed the entire amount without any deductions. It screws them beyond belief to the point that insurance is kinda mandatory now. And from what Ive read in these comments, even if you have insurance it still hits hard. The U.S. needs a better system to help it’s citizens because this shit doesnt benefit anyone but insurance companies.
