Or they could, you know, pay for the food AND give the restaurant exposure. Like a normal person.

Exposure from a blog that doesn’t even have a name yet? Totally seems legit.

I can’t believe they would think a nice restaurant…especially a michelin starred establishment….would want or allow people live vlogging in their place.

I hope he just responded to that email with an ‘lol’
“I want a free meal for 2 with multiple items off the menu so my 150 followers who will probably never visit Ireland can see it, oh yeah and I probably won’t even rate you highly”

Legitimate critics pay for the food and try to blend in so they can give an accurate assessment of what any given person would get for service and food.

Check out their Twitter account for the real fun

The entire blogosphere is offended and felt threatened by this and have been spamming the account calling them bullies since this went viral. They’re so hurt because somebody doesn’t value the WORK offered in exchange for their food.

Jesus I hate this SO much. I make films, doing mainly special fx, cinematography and writing and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been asked to do hours and hours of free work for exposure/credit by shitty people who don’t have the talent to do anything on their own.

The worst part is that most of the people that offer exposure have far less followers than I do so how is exposure to 113 people going to help me ignore the cost of doing business plus my wasted time?!

You wouldn’t believe how common this stuff is with travel writers too even.

I work in a high end spa in Florida and we routinely get people trying to get free services out of some “exposure” for our business. On the one occasion my employer donated to a couple of travel writers who wrote for a famous magazine in the UK they showed up nearly 30 minutes late to their hour long service and were complete unprepared to ask us questions about the location and used a crappy iphone 4 with a shattered screen to take photos for their piece. We got a sentence long mention for services that totaled in over $300 dollars.

People do this, and get away with it too.

Oh good so you can annoy all our paying customers while they dine!

I work for a hotel aggregator and the amount of people who demand free rooms to give away as prizes for “exposure” or weekend breaks to feature on blogs is ridiculous, you don’t get shit for free bitches

Uhhhh no. This isn’t how you are supposed to review a restaurant. It is corrupt from the get-go. Many people don’t even know what top food critics look like as they keep a low profile so they are treated like a regular PAYING customer. They come in and write a fair review. This is just a couple of lazy moochers.

Edit: Just looked them up. Their lunch and early-dinner menu is 34 euro for three courses (app, main, dessert), at a place with a Michelin star. That sounds like pretty good value to me.

See this could be worth it if the people were actual Instagram influencers with a large social following. A positive review seen by over 30-40,000 fans for the price of a free meal? Great. But these people are sad wannabes who don’t realise you actually have to build up your fanbase with some serious hustle before demanding free shit.

“Thanks, but the Michelin Star is all the exposure we need this year. You would be welcome to drop by and pay for a meal like everyone else.” – what they wanted to say.

They can have a hearty bowl of fuck off. They already got a Michelin star, with awards such as —

why would they want some little blogger to come over and give a nod.

There should be a subreddit just for posts about people wanting free stuff in exchange for exposure. I have a very strong love/hate relationship with this kind of thing.

Also btw writing a (presumably positive) review in exchange for a free meal — if you don’t disclose the quid pro quo — is a deceptive practice.

Why ‘specifically’ on the 10th and not just ‘on the 10th’?

    Is this how vegans talk?

I work for a small business that deals with a younger crowd, and the number of “up and coming” YouTubers who have offered to review our product for us in exchange for freebies is insane. Most of them have <1000 subs and tell us that they have a “huge following.”

    There will always be beggars.

Who the hell would want someone sitting in their MICHELIN STAR RESTAURANT live-tweeting the whole time? You’ll ruin the atmosphere.
