Armor’s design detail is off the charts elaborate. I’m guessing he didn’t wear this to battle.

It’s incredible how much time someone put into this, considering it was probably worn just a couple of times at most

Imagine being a starving peasant and seeing the king dressed in fucking gold ride by on his horse, surrounded by his kingsguard and knowing there’s not a thing you could do about it. Things have gotten a lot better, right?

Fun fact: The process used to set the gold onto the armor is called damascening, and involves taking sheets of very, very thin gold leaf and applying it to a very gently scored surface with a very, very small hammer. [Here’s a video of the process](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgP2ENTwwTE).

Fun fact number 2: *Most* damascening was done in Spain, and the armor would have most likely been initially hammered/engraved in France, and then a Spanish damascener would have been hired by the court directly to engolden the armor 🙂

If you like this and you’re ever in Philadelphia check out the Philadelphia Museum of Art. They have an entire wing of the building dedicated to suits of armor and other medieval weaponry. It is really cool and they have an amazing collection.

Fun fact: Henry actually never wore this suit of armor. After a horrific jousting accident, Henry suffered from an infection which caused him madness, as well as the inability to maintain a healthy diet. He ended up being too large to fit inside of this beautiful suit of armor.
