Great game by the team, especially Vidal. But there was some absolutely atrocious refereeing today. Barca players were fouled left and right without cards or fouls being given to the Espanyol players. Absolute disgrace of refereeing. Great to see Coutinho’s debut, hopefully Mina’s comes soon as well.

    Angry about:

Messi gets the ball. Passes a player and runs towards the penalty area. The player he passed pulls him down from behind to stop him in a professional freekick. No yellow.

I really don’t understand these ref decisions. It quite clearly was a yellow card. And Espanyol did this again and again. They used this as a tactic to stop Messi. Why is that not a yellow card? Is there something in the rules I don’t get? The ref did see it and he did give the correct freekicks.

Espanyol were a bit too narrow defensively, if you’re going to be narrow you’ve got to make sure you’re shutting off Roberto and Alba who were able to support the attacks a bit too often. It’s a hard job trying to remain compact, whilst winning battles out wide, it just stretched the shape and Barcelona used the ball well enough to expose pockets of space, and they should have gotten at least one more to kill off the tie.

Midfield as much as people hated it Espanyol saw what they could get away with and just looked to kill the tempo when they could and get breathers in. Referee should have been stronger and made some bookings early.

However, that shot of Iniesta coming off and him waiting on the touchline… it hurt something fierce. As much as I like Coutinho I just hate the thought of Iniesta being replaced, necessary though it is. It just hurts.

Just in case it never occurred to you there is something sketchy going on at the RFEF, 45 minutes of this game was enough to show it. This fucking asshole of a ref was looking for the slightest opportunity to give us bullshit yellows and sabotage our CdR run. He looks to provoke us and when he whistles on a player he keeps staring at him to see his reaction or what he’d say, instead of focusing on the ongoing game.

While on the other hand, Asspanyol players are playing dirty and they get nothing, not even a warning.
