I would guess that your dad has HGH deficiency but does carry the genetics of a tall family. HGH deficiency is the cause of what used to be called “pituitary dwarfism,” where people are small but proportional, as opposed to achondroplasia. Your dad is actually just an inch away from being an official little person (4’10” is the cut off for official little person status.) (I actually am a geneticist.)

same thing happened in my neighborhood growing up in the 70’s. A lot of my classmates’ parents had survived the Holocaust and they were tiny and frail 30 years later but the kids grew “normally”

If you haven’t made a home movie-style remake of *Twins* starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito with your mom as the director then you’re doing it wrong.

Geneticist here. There are a number of factors that go into determining a person’s height. Genetics, of course, plays a huge role. But other things such as diet, environment, and having a cheating whore of a mother play into the equation as well.

Genetics certainly are strange. Not only is your dad much taller than you, but he looks much younger and still has all his hair.

It would be more accurate to say that height is the result of several combined things: genetics and environmental factors (mostly nutrition). But height is 80% genetic…so how fucking tall is your mom?

Genetics is hella more complicated than “tall dad = tall kid.”

Also you might be adopted. I’m sorry you had to find out this way. Your real dad is Robert Wadlow.

I know the feeling op. Mom is 5’2″. Dad is 5’1″. I’m 6 feet. Made for great family photos.

Runs in the family though. I have a cousin who’s 6’4″.

I keep making fun of my dad because we just had our daughter who is consistently 90 percentile for weight, height etc. For babies. Not girl babies, ALL babies. She’s going to TOWER over him.
