Alpine choughs, if I’m not mistaken.

These fuckers are everywhere in the Alps, and they are not afraid of people. Probably because they are fully aware we have food on us and they’ll steal it in a pinch the second we are not looking. I’ve had a grand time in the Dolomites watching them steal fries from hikers plates at a hut – it had a pretty nice panorama terrace with wooden railings. The birds just sat on these rails, and if someone was too busy with their phone, they just swooped in and pinched a fry or two.

Also got a nice photo of [one of them in flight](https://imgur.com/a/16AyR) on the Piz Boe peak – did a very cool, steep via ferrata with a cable bridge, overhangs and amazing exposure to get up there, and this seemed like a victory lap for me making it up there.

Nice photo! I’d shop out that other bird just so it wouldn’t take away from the main bird. Just my two cents.

This is in the Alpstein in eastern Switzerland which is IMO the best place in the world to hike in. Nowhere else do you get this many different amazing views, this close together, this easily accessible. Also you can’t hike 2 hours in any direction without stumbling upon a cute restaurant, so you don’t even have to bring any food!

Hey, I climbed one of those years ago! I think it was the fourth? (There are several individual peaks which are simply numbered. *Erster Kreuzberg, Zweiter Kreuzberg* and so on.)

Beautiful photo. Brought back some half forgotten memories. I think I even remember the spot where this must have been taken from. Just southwards up the slope from Fälensee, it must be around the spot where the Kreuzberge first come fully into view. (Google Maps tells me the spot is called *Saxer Lücke*).

    Edit: a word

Is it terrible of me to ask if the bird on the left is real? What are the actual chances that every pixel of it’s wingspan would be the EXACT same shade of black? I ask this question because it seems to me the image would be just as interesting with only the one bird.
