The new herb of this century is Kratom and it is being used for the treatment of various diseases. Not only this, but it has gained popularity for being a powerful analgesic and it has also been found to be helpful in withdrawal from opiates. However, it has been suggested that with more usage, Kratom can be good for dealing with other ailments and diseases. One of the problems that can be dealt with by using Kratom is Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, ADHD. How? First things first, you have to understand exactly what ADHD is.
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a very complex mental disorder that primarily affects teens and children and the state of the disease can also progress into adulthood. The children who are diagnosed with this problem are often hyper kinetic and hyperactive. These kids will have difficulties in learning and have trouble in paying attention in school. As far as adults are concerned, when they suffer from ADHD, they find it difficult to organize things or manage time. They become more vulnerable to drug abuse and dependence and can also suffer from problems in the workplace and in relationships too. The symptoms of ADHD in children include low self-esteem, anxiety, procrastination, drug abuse, frustration, chronic boredom, depression, difficulty concentrating, mood swings and forgetfulness.
While the origin of ADHD is unknown so far, but researchers have found that brain areas that control attention are deficient in those who suffer from this disorder. There is also a hereditary factor as the disorder runs in families. Chemical imbalance in the brain, consumption of lead or a brain injury can cause ADHD. CNS stimulants are prescribed for treatment of ADHD, which include amphetamine and methylphenidate. These medicines increase attention span and help with impulsive and hyperactive symptoms. So, how can Kratom help?
Students and adults with ADHD don’t have enough of the neurotransmitter called serotonin, which regulates mood, memory and learning. The orientation of dopamine receptors in their mind is abnormal and this leads to deregulation. The low levels of dopamine impair focus and attention and high levels increase sensory perception and cause the mind to race that can overload the brain. Hence, the cognitive functions are reduced and there is a lack of emotional and motivational responses. Kratom is known for acting on the opiate receptors in the central nervous system and can have similar effects as that of opiates.
The herb impacts the opiate receptors found in the GABA receptors and thus reduces the release of GABA, which plays the role of an inhibitory transmitter by decreasing the release of dopamine. When GABA is limited, dopamine can be released freely by the receptors. When this happens, the patients of ADHD will see an improvement in their attention span and will find it easier to focus on their tasks. But, you need to bear in mind that you have to use the right Kratom strains for reaping these benefits because some are only helpful in sedating or dealing with other issues.
