Maybe somebody should out out some petition for people to sign calling for the president of Puerto Rico to be impeached and see how many people will agree.

Even if Puerto Rico wasn’t part of the U.S.A you would expect aid from other countries.

and this is why they won’t be helped. It has zero political consequence to the Republicans.

It might if they push it in Florida and New Jersey to the PR community there who their R representatives did nothing, it could change things, but 2018 is a LONG way off and I’m sure other crap will fill the news and minds of people between now and then.

The real question is whether anyone has told Donald Trump that he’s the President of Puerto Rico?

You could give all the evidence needed to prove to them that PR is a part of the united states and they would just shake their heads the whole time, say “no” and then walk off.

I overheard some people in the bank voicing their concerns about how Puerto Ricans might try to come here and they don’t want even more illegals here. Someone stepped in and was like, “You know Puerto Rico is part of America, right?” They did not.

Even if he wasn’t, the comments Trump has been making are woefully inappropriate.

Like, would saying “your infrastructure sucks!” to Japan after getting hit by a tsunami be any better?

Americans, especially the proudest of Americans, know the least about their own country and history.
I’ve met more foreigners from Europe, Asia, and the rest of the Americas that know Puerto Rico is part of the US and Puertoricans are US citizens than I’ve met Americans that know this. Most Americans I’ve met don’t even know that it’s a Caribbean island, what else is in the Caribbean, or much else about the world. They think it’s “you know, somewhere, somewhere Mexico”. But then again, most Americans wouldn’t know where Delaware is if you give them a map of the mainland, so, not really surprising.
The fruits of nationalism…what a joke.

I’d like to take this moment to address an issue facing Puerto rico: The people of puerto rico are taxed, yet have no representation and have limited voting rights. During the American revolution, Americans were taxed and had no representation in government, and used the slogan “no taxation without representation” yet America is doing the same thing with puerto rico. Make Puerto Rico A State Again

There was a referendum for statehood only 4 months ago. The major news outlets reported on it extensively. There was the potential to initiate the process to incorporate Puerto Rico as the 51st state.

It’s a shame that some United States citizens either don’t care, forget, or only participate in times of polarizing controversy.
