For everyone saying Lukaku was a mistake, wasn’t it the same sort of thing as Chalobah? I remember Lu wanting first team football and Mou not willing to guarantee it. IIRC it was the player’s choice to seek more game time with a permanent move.

Did Conte actually want to sell anyone? I got the impression sales while he has been in charge have been…. someone elses call

Yet the only one I really regret that we sold is KDB.

Abramovic is a real visionary and has brought the club to a level of self sustainability competing for the highest honors that no other can boast of. The loan system is a Win-Win at all fronts most importantly the player.

On one hand, you could say, “wow they are good at making sales”. However, they’ve sold KDB, and Salah who are featuring for competitors to the title. Not all their business has been great, but selling Oscar to China for $60M is a pretty good piece of business i’d say.

It’s worked out just fine for the most part.

The one player they should have found some way to hang on to though is KDB. Hindsight is 20/20 but he clearly had the potential to become a great player back before they sold him. These things are always difficult and it’s not always easy to keep an ambitious player happy while he develops but they should have hung on to him one way or another.

He has turned into an absolute monster, could easily end up winning a couple of Ballon D’ors and becoming a legend.

Wondering how much they spent on talent during that time as well?

Cech: lost his spot to Courtois who is younger and better

Bertrand: He turned out great but IMO both Azpi as a LB or Alonso as LWB are superior players

David Luiz: When he left, we played a back 4 where he isn’t in his best. He came back better and playing as a sweeper, his best position

Filipe Luis: That would be massive if we kept. He is much better than Baba (his substitute that year) and probably would be better than Alonso as LWB too. But he is a bit old so it wasn’t a terrible business

Matic: Only this season will show if it was a mistake, let’s wait for Bakayoko

Salah: Was horrible for us and IMO Pedro and Willian are better players

    De Bruyne: The big mistake

Mata: Couldn’t fit Mou system and wouldn’t fit Conte system too. he is not as fast as Willian or Pedro to close our midfield. Mata only works 100% when he has complete creative freedom. Not even Hazard is totally free of defending in our system.

Costa: He went for much more than he came and 3 years older, also had many problems inside and outside the pitch

Lukaku: Ok, maybe it was a mistake, but in the end we got Morata who is probably a striker in a similar level

Begovic: Backup keeper looking for playing time

    Cuadrado: Was horrible for us

Oscar: The best deal in the century

Mikel: Went for free after 10 years, his peak had already passed

Ramires: Was playing poorly for us for years, his peak had already passed it

Spare me with these fecking Neville quotes. They’ve only quoted half of the argument. And Neville himself provided the other half. That whole episode of “The Debate” should have featured just Neville as he talked out of both sides of his mouth the whole show. He also said that Chelsea needed to get rid of Costa because he was a distraction and blah blah blah tipping points and scales and the manager can’t risk being undermined and so such and such.

Selling Diego Costa was a huge mistake. Who would sell a world-class goal machine?

Tibo banged De Bruyne’s girlfriend and Mourinho didn’t want the distraction sold the worse of the pair. Second Lukaku was the biggest mistake imagine him and Costs Jesus
