Following promising peoples’ picks is interesting for sure, but at the end, not many people clarify *how* they get to their decision making in their own selections, so you have nothing to learn personally. No matter how interesting or unique someone’s selection process or staking criteria may be, without a good ***reliable*** history to check, you basically are gambling with your money, with all the pros and cons that entails.

If you are interested in creating your own system, I think /u/the_wizard_of_odds post [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/SoccerBetting/comments/6k4pxr/question_for_those_with_betting_models/djjnx06/) has a lot of information if you’re interested in creating your own potentially succesful system and his post [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/SoccerBetting/comments/6sc6ea/any_good_read_or_preparation_for_the_new_soccer/dlbq4cu/?context=3) which includes some reading if you are interested in that.

As far as my experience goes, I started out as any average person I think. Started betting based on gut feelings, moved on to trusting others with their picks, then started playing around creating my own system, using Excel, and later on some simple (really, i could even do it!) programming to automate my process. I uploaded a Excel spreadsheet with data and using the simplest of systems, the Poisson Distribution system, including explanations, [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/SoccerBetting/comments/6rxe03/simple_poisson_distribution_system_in_excel_with/?utm_content=title&utm_medium=user&utm_source=reddit). Maybe after you played around with that, you can get a feel for system making. With some inspiration about which markets you feel are potentially interesting targets or alternatively, googling, you can get a system going in a market criteria you’re interested in (to win/ Over-Unders, and so on) for sure.

In the end, after honestly years (ugh!) of meddling around with creating systems and clever schemes to one-up the bookmakers once again, the most important thing to know is that there is a very thin line of success and failure. In the end it’s all about ***value*** for sure, and the one way you can achieve that is through trial and error.

If you got any more questions, feel free to ask.

Trial and error. Find out which markets work best for you and stick with them to build up some money. Treat your betting bank as an investment.

Research specific leagues and teams and see if you can spot any current trends which you can profit from. Don’t pick leagues you have no clue about as they are the only games on that day or at that time. For me I prefer betting in-play as oppose to pre match bets, and I usually place most of bets on the corners and goal markets.

Play fantasy premier league on the side, I personally find that helps with my reasoning (somehow), and will of course help with player to score markets.
