That took four and a half hours to do? Now I feel really bad about how many webs I’ve swatted away in my life.

I don’t understand how they can create so much from such a small body.

It’s in the same vein as how I can’t grasp how much water can be just floating around in the sky as a rain cloud. After Harvey here in Houston my understand was ever more fucked up.

It’s an araneid. They are mostly bros and will create and dismantle webs daily. I wouldn’t be surprised if you catch this one on your camera again.

I always wonder how they are able to create a web between two poles/trees/things that have no other thing between them that connects them. Do they go al the way to the ground and then up the other side? But where does the extra length of web thread go then?

I’m mildly disappointed it doesn’t say “some pig” in the web.

Serious question: how do spiders make a web across two objects that are far apart? How do they get across the first time?

Three hours of work, just to be undone in three seconds by your face when you walk into it.

Looks to be an orb weaving spider. Hard to tell the species, but many of these types or spiders will build a new one of these webs everyday. They eat the old web and build in the exact spot.

    That’s pretty neat.

I wonder if their butt mounted spinning arms get tired. Do insects feel muscle fatigue like mammals?

My favourite part(s) about spider web-making is(are) the anchor webs. So cool that this tiny arachnid evolved to know you can’t just build a ring, you have to tie that shit off somewhere.

I hate to say it but I’d love to see this at normal time. Or because that would be three and a half hours long, maybe half time?

I’ve always been intrigued by how spiders start their web. Of course, the beauty is in the intricacy of the web itself but the structure always baffles me. Sometimes I see a web and am absolutely perplexed by how the first connections were made.

In a few cases, I have no other option but to believe the spider crawled all the way down the branch to the ground, crossed to another plant, and crawled up before anchoring the web and being able to cross back easily.

Either that or the NBA needs to call these fuckers up and get them to teach us their mad hops.
