Cancer has touched many of our lives in one way or another. There are many different forms of cancer, but one of the most concerning types of cancer for women is ovarian cancer. In fact, the Canadian and American Cancer Societies have noted that ovarian cancer has almost 2800 new cases, about 1750 deaths in Canada as well as 22,280 new cases and about 14,240 deaths in the United States of America alone.

There are many ways that you can detect cancer early on, one of the most important ways is making sure you get checked regularly by your doctor. There are also signs that you need to look out for because they can be symptoms of cancer inside you. Here are 4 signs of ovarian cancer that every woman needs to be aware of:

1. Always feeling bloated

We all hate feeling bloated, but this annoying feeling may be pointing toward a much more serious issue. Continuous, prolonged and repeated bloating that continues for more than 3 consecutive weeks can mean there is a cancerous tumor growth in your body. Many women who feel this bloating don’t think that anything is wrong and don’t see a doctor when they should.

2. Persistent Abdominal Pain

Abdominal pain can mean a variety of things and should be checked out. Anyone who has a family history of ovarian cancer and is experiencing persistent abdominal pain should see a doctor and get to the root cause of the discomfort.

3. Increased Need to Urinate

If you are feeling the need to urinate more often but not increasing the amount of liquid you intake you may need to be checked for ovarian cancer. Frequent urination can be a sign of a few different issues but it is better to seek medical attention early on just in case, especially if there is a history of cancer in your family.

4. Difficulty in Eating or Sudden loss of appetite

A change in appetite can be caused by many different things. Any loss of appetite for more than three consecutive weeks can be a sign of various diseases in the stomach, intestine, and bowels. However, a drop in appetite can be a warning sign for ovarian cancer. Some types of advanced ovarian cancer tend to sit on the surface of the stomach or the intestines and this can make a woman feel full earlier than normal.
