3-Year-Old Who Was In Horrible Accident Makes Miracle Recovery Moments Before Doctors Pull The Plug

7 min read

Life is a beautiful gift from God, one that we take for granted most of the time. We often forget to be thankful for all the blessings we have in our lives. We forget to be thankful for the people who love us, for the good life we have been blessed with. But, every so often, we come across a person or an incident which compels us to contemplate our life. Every so often, a miracle happens, that reinforces our beliefs. This is the story of one such miracle.

Three-year-old Lacey Jane Ayers had gone Christmas shopping with her father, mother, and her newborn baby brother. They were returning home, exhausted after the shopping when their car got into a horrific accident. The other family members escaped with minor cuts and bruises, but Lacey’s life was in danger. She had to be airlifted to the Alabama Children’s Hospital and the doctors put the toddler on life support.

In the accident, Lacey had suffered severe damages to her skull and brain which could leave her disabled, paralyzed, or even in a coma. The toddler is in a neck brace because of injuries to her neck. The family remains hopeful about Lacey’s recovery, especially since she moves about and recognizes her surroundings when she is not under sedation.

The doctors had lost all hope of Lacey recovering that they decided to pull the life support. Miraculously though, Lacey’s condition improved just before the doctors were about to pull the plug. The incident happened on December 9. Lacey and her brother were strapped firmly into their car seats.

Lacey’s mother, 20-year-old Shayla was taken to a hospital near the site of the crash as she needed a few stitches. Lacy’s uncle Daniel was among the first to hear the heartbreaking news that Lacey did not survive the crash and that the doctors were waiting for Lacy’s mother to arrive from the hospital where she was admitted so that she could say goodbye to her daughter one last time. The entire family was devastated at the news that their precious toddler would be no more. Lacey was in a very bad condition after having suffered the brunt of the car accident.

The doctors were about to pull the plug when she started moving ever so slightly much to the joy of the people around her. On his second visit, Lacey squeezed Daniel’s hand. Her uncle recalls that he had just seen her a week before, healthy and full of life, playing with her toys. Daniel says that Lacey is quite a tough kid and that he hopes that she will recover as soon as possible.

Lacey’s family started a Facebook page to keep everyone updated on Lacey’s progress. They have even planned to start a fund to gather enough money to pay for the medical expenses that are not covered by insurance. Fortunately, Lacey is making headway in recovery and her doctors are quite impressed with the progress she is making.
